Marina F. Andrews Community Garden
During the fall and winter of 2018, we helped a group of displaced community gardeners find a new home at the Town-owned Andrews Farm. With financial support from individuals and foundations, the Marina F. Andrews Community Garden was up and running by mid-April 2019, in record time, and ready for the growing season. Farming Falmouth was able to pave the way to a solution, physically assist with the move, and act as the group’s 501(c)3 umbrella, allowing the gardeners to apply for grants. We hope this is the first of many fruitful collaborations.
Emerald House Community Garden
After years of dreaming and planning Farming Falmouth signed a lease with the town of Falmouth in November of 2020 and the community gardeners broke ground shortly thereafter at the historic Emerald House in East Falmouth! In March 2021, all available garden plots had been reserved. In June, the gardeners held a dual grand opening ceremony with the Cape Cod Cape Verdean Museum and Cultural Center inside the historic Emerald House. In 2023, with a grant from MDAR, the garden was expanded, adding 30 more plots. That’s 65 plots within walking distance for many East Falmouth residents. To find out more or put your name down for a plot go to the Emerald Community Garden website or read more about it in this news article.
Nestled on the site of a 300-year-old farm, our community garden is a vibrant space that blends the rich history of Falmouth with a vision for sustainable agriculture. Overlooking picturesque pastures where the Peterson Shepherds graze, the garden is a haven of natural beauty and collaboration.
Here, 30 gardeners cultivate their crops in raised 10x10 beds, working together to grow not only food but also a community. We’re passionate about extending the growing season, nurturing cool-weather crops well into the fall, and enriching our soils with cover crops to support long-term sustainability.
This incredible project was made possible through the generous support of the Town of Falmouth Conservation Commission, Barnstable County Extension, MDAR, and First Citizens Credit Union. We are deeply grateful to our volunteers who braved the chilly early spring to level the ground, build the fence and garden beds, and distribute soil and compost.
Together, we are not just building a garden—we're building a legacy of care for the land and our community.
